Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information AniHoshi collects when you use this website, how it is used, who it is shared with and the choices you have. We collect as little as we need to run the site, and we do not sell your personal information.
1. Information you give us
- Account details — your username, email address and password when you register. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash; we can never see them.
- Profile and settings — an avatar, display preferences, notification choices and anything else you add to your profile.
- Your activity — your watch list and folders, watch history and playback progress, ratings, reactions, comments, community posts, Watch Together rooms and chat messages, and anime requests.
- Messages to us — what you send through the contact form, including the email address you reply from.
Comments, community posts, chat messages, your username, avatar and public profile can be seen by other visitors. Please do not post personal information there.
2. Signing in with another service
If you choose to sign in with or connect Google, Discord, MyAnimeList or AniList, that service shares your account ID with us and, depending on the service, your name, email address and avatar. If you connect MyAnimeList or AniList to import or sync your list, we also store the access token that service issues so the sync can run. We never receive your password for those services. You can disconnect a service at any time from your account settings, which deletes the stored link and token.
3. Information collected automatically
- Technical data — your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you request. We use it to keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, enforce bans and rate limits, and fix problems. Server logs are kept for a short period only.
- Form submissions — the IP address is stored with contact messages and anime requests to stop spam and repeated abuse.
4. Cookies and local storage
AniHoshi itself uses only the cookies the site needs to work:
- a session cookie that keeps you signed in and remembers your session;
- an XSRF-TOKEN cookie that protects forms against cross-site request forgery;
- an optional remember-me cookie if you tick "Remember me" when signing in;
- small preference cookies, such as whether the sidebar is collapsed.
Your browser's local storage also keeps player preferences and where you stopped watching, so these work without an account. This data stays on your device. You can clear cookies and local storage in your browser settings at any time; doing so signs you out and resets your preferences.
We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies ourselves. Third-party services described below, such as embedded video players, advertising or analytics partners, may set their own cookies under their own policies.
5. How we use your information
- to create and run your account and keep your lists, history and settings in sync across devices;
- to show your comments and community activity and to send notifications you have turned on;
- to send service emails such as password resets and account notices;
- to answer your messages and requests;
- to moderate the community and protect the site, its users and our infrastructure from spam, fraud and abuse;
- to understand which features are used so we can improve the site.
We do not use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
6. Third-party services
We rely on a few providers to run the site. They receive only what they need to do their job:
- Cloudflare — delivers and protects the website and may process your IP address and request data. If a captcha is shown, it is provided by Cloudflare Turnstile or Google reCAPTCHA.
- Email delivery — a transactional email provider sends our service emails to your email address.
- Sign-in providers — Google, Discord, MyAnimeList and AniList, only if you choose to use them.
- Media and metadata — artwork and information may be loaded from public anime databases and image hosts, and GIFs in comments are provided by GIPHY. Your browser contacts these hosts directly when it loads their images.
- Video players — videos are played through embedded third-party players. AniHoshi does not host video files; those players are run by other companies and have their own privacy policies.
- Advertising and analytics — if the site shows ads or uses an analytics tool, those providers may use cookies or similar technologies to measure visits and show ads.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and property of AniHoshi, our users or others.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Content you post stays until you or a moderator removes it, or your account is deleted. Contact messages are kept as long as needed to handle them, and technical logs are deleted after a short period. Some information may be kept longer where we need it to prevent abuse or meet a legal obligation.
8. Your choices and rights
- update your profile, email, password and notification settings from your account settings;
- export your list in MyAnimeList format from the import/export page;
- disconnect any linked sign-in service;
- ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account and the personal data linked to it, by writing to us through the Contact page.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. We will respond to verified requests within a reasonable time.
9. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are hashed and access to our systems is restricted. No method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and will act promptly if a problem occurs.
10. Children
AniHoshi is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. International users
Our servers and service providers may be located in other countries than yours. By using the site, you understand that your information may be processed in those countries, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
13. Contact
If you have questions about this policy or your information, please reach us through our Contact page.
